Madhubani: In yet another brave move a husband-to-be has been beaten up by the bride after he turned up drunk to their wedding ceremony.
Aarti, who passed her Plus Two examination recently not only blackened the groom’s face her with soot but also threw a garland of shoes around his neck and called off the wedding, according to Gulf News reports.
After the ritual of ‘jaimal’, the groom Ranjeet Kumar Kamat and his cousin went out to a road nearby and returned in inebriated state to the venue.
The groom who lost consciousness soon after was finally brought to the wedding to complete the wedding rituals.
But much to the embarrassment of the bride’s family, the groom kept calling for beer and created fuss by misbehaving with guests.
The bride, who has been sitting tranquilly, lost her temper and with the help of other women smeared on the groom’s face and refused to marry the drunken groom.
“We were not in favour of calling off the marriage, but when the groom continued to abuse everyone in an inebriated condition, even male members of the village protested.
Subsequently, the groom and his friend were made hostage and asked to tender an apology,” said Neti, the bride’s father to TOI.
They were allowed to go home only after they come to an agreement to return the dowry they had taken.
