Dubai family hides jewellery in fall ceiling; AC mechanic steals it

A 28-year-old, AC mechanic allegedly stole jewellery that were hidden above the false ceiling of the bathroom by a flat tenant, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

Hamza Jameel, 32, Jordanian, teacher, testified that his mother arrived on a visit in January. She gave him her jewellery which worth about Dh60,000 and Dh500 cash to hide them to her.

“I put them in a sac and hidden them in the fall-ceiling of the bathroom.

As I turned home on January 23, my wife told me that technicians came and checked the filter of the AC of the central AC which is in the bathroom.

I rushed to check the jewellery but did not find them where I kept them… I suspected the workers who entered the flat and immediately informed the police,” he testified.

Police investigated the workers and suspected RKK, Indian, who did the maintenance of the AC. The accused confessed to his crime and said that he gave some of the gold to each of HRS 32, clerk and MMS, 34 driver, who are both Indians and his friends and not co-workers.

The court adjourned the case to June 25.
