DSP quits service to join Telangana movement

Hyderabad, November 04: When she resigned from the post of deputy superintendent of police for the sake of Telangana in December 2009, she became an instant hit with proTelangana agitators and hobnobbed with senior TRS leaders.

However, she got reinstated in March 2010. But Domakonda Nalini, who was the ‘toast’ of Telangana then is back in news once again, after she announced on Thursday she is resigning from the post, yet again. Those close to her say the woman police official is all set to join the Telangana Rashtra Samithi. She is presently working with the Women Protection Cell in the CID.

Sources said a TRS MLA has already given her assurance she would play a key role in the women wing of the party.Addressing a press conference on Thursday, Nalini said she had submitted her twopage resignation letter to the directorgeneral of police V Dinesh Reddy while faxing it to chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi stating she is resigning from the post for the cause of a separate Telangana. Praising the stand taken by leaders like Nagam Janardhan Reddy, Jupalli Prabhakar, S Rajaiah who resigned from their party posts, Nalini is in all likelihood set to to start her political career.

To attract and discuss issues with netizens, Nalini has created a blog www.telangananalini.blogspot.com and opened accounts on social networking sites Facebook and Twitter. “When I resigned for the first time on December 12, 2009, a number of senior leaders approached me to join their political parties but I said no for various reasons. One political party openly invited me to contest as an MLA from my constituency in Nalgonda district. I have now resigned from the post of DSP to create awareness among people about the T movement,” she added.

Explaining her future course of action, she said she would be taking part in a hunger strike at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on December 9 and shortly be approaching Delhi police for permission. She said she took the decision of resigning from her post twice for the Telangana movement.

After the state government reinstated her, she alleged she was harassed by top police officials. “I have complained to my higherups several times about the harassment meted out to me. But there was no positive move on part of government officials and no one came forward. To fulfil aspirations of the people of Telangana, I took the decision to resign again,” she explained and added though she tried to meet DGP Dinesh Reddy, he did not meet her.

Nalini started her career as a subdivisional police officer in Warangal in 2007. Later, she worked as deputy superintendent of police in Medak. She has completed her B.Ed and B.Com and also has a Diploma in Pharmacy from the Kakatiya University. Nalini, a native of Bhongir in Nalgonda is married to a school teacher.
