Mumbai: Former TV news anchor and journalist Faye D’Souza hit out at people in general and Bollywood and corporate India in particular for their silence over anti-people moves of the government.

She performed a thought-provoking piece “Uncle, Are You With Us?” at the recently conducted Spoken Fest 2020.

D’Souza says she quit mainstream journalism at the time when mainstream journalism failed to cover the truth about what was happening in Kashmir, when it forgot to hold the government accountable for its actions.

Taking a dig at Bollywood over its silence due to fear of losing, the award winning journalist says: “The biggest male voices in Bollywood are conspicuous in their absence and their silence, because they have these big projects riding on their very buff arms and shoulders, right?”

Thinking ‘why take panga’ the “Corporate India is so afraid to tick off the government, they’re worried their files might not move through north block and they will be punished into not making as much money as they used to.” Says D’Souza.

Taking the names of several activists she asks “Do they don’t have families do they have nothing to lose?”

Saying that people fear to forward truth because ‘Government is reading everything’, she asks “Is the government reading constitution?”

Urging the people to speak up, Faye D’Souza claims “The same family that you are protecting with your silence will one day ask you what you were doing when their inheritance was being squandered.”

Expressing hope in younger generation, D’Souza notes when history asks for accountability ‘youth’ will be the answer.
