DSC scrapped; TSPSC empowered to recruit teachers

In a major policy decision, the Telangana State government on Wednesday dispensed with the process of recruitment of teachers through the District Selection Committees (DSC) in the districts and opted to conduct their recruitment through the Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC). An order to this effect was issued by Ranjeev R. Acharya, Special Principal Secretary and Commissioner of Telangana School Education.

With this, the posts of secondary grade teachers, school assistants, language pandits and physical education teachers would be filled through the Telangana State Public Service Commission. Besides, teacher posts in the Adarsha schools launched three years ago, will also be filled though the TSPSC. The decision was taken following the lines of viability of merging the direct recruitment system into TSPSC as required by General Administrative Department. Bringing all government sector recruitment into one place, the State government decided to take up the recruitment of all types of teacher posts done through direct recruitment through the TSPSC only hereafter.

The decision has been taken to maintain uniformity, stability and best selection methods for public services, according to G.O No 19 issued on Wednesday. On its part, the TSPSC would conduct competitive written examination, prepare merit list and appoint all teachers itself. The proposed filling of 10,000 teachers’ posts would be done by the TSPSC. Even the posts of principals, PG teachers, trained graduate teachers for model schools which are under the control of the Directorate of School Education would also be filled through the TSPSC. (NSS)
