New Delhi, July 05: As expected, the name of Pradesh Congress Committee chief D Srinivas figured in the list of candidates released for eight constituencies out of the 12 bound for voting in the state on July 27.
Joining Mr Srinivas in the list of candidates is former minister Mohammed Ali Shabbir, who would represent the Congress from Yellareddy constituency.
The list of eight candidates was cleared by the All India Congress Committee. The remaining four candidates from Koratla, Mancherial, Huzurabad and Siddipet constituencies are expected to be announced in the coming days since the last day of filing of nominations is July 9. The scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on July 10 and the last date of withdrawal of nominations is July 12.
Mr D Srinivas will contest from Nizamabad (Urban, G Vinod will fight for the Chennur (SC) seat. Mr Mohammed Ali Shabbir will contest from Yellareddy while Adi Srinivas will represent the party in Vemulawada and KK Mahender from Sircilla.
Indrakaran Reddy will hope to get elected from the Sirpur seat while Lakshman Kumar will try his luck from the Dharmapuri seat. Kondapalli Dayasagar Rao will fight for the Warangal West seat.
The by-elections were necessitated after ten MLAs from the Telangana Rashtra Samithi, one each from the Telugu Desam Party and the Bharatiya Janata Party resigned in protest over the Terms of Reference set by the Srikrishna Committee.
Candidates for Koratla, Mancherial, Huzurabad and Siddipet — will be announced later. The last date for filing nominations is July 9, scrutiny July 10 and the last date for withdrawal of nominations July 12.
