DS asks T-party leaders to shun infighting and convince high command on separate State

Hyderabad, January, 10: The PCC chief, Mr Dharmapuri Srinivas, here on Monday called upon the Telangana Congress leaders to stop criticising each other and work in such a way to convince the Congress high command about the paramount need for creation of a separate Telangana State.

Reiterating that he was a die-hard supporter of separate Telangana State, Mr Srinivas said that he had already made this clear when he was elected PCC chief. He also said that he does not need any certificate from any body on his conviction on the issue. Being the PCC chief, he was bound to get along with all the Congress activists of all the regions in the State.

Referring to the Justice B N Srikrishna Committee report, Mr Srinivas said that the report was not being considered as a fulcrum to decide as to whether a separate Telangana State should be formed or not. He also noted that the committee has articulated how the Telangana region was being meted out gross injustice.

Replying to questions, the PCC chief said there was no need for him to state what he was doing for achieving Telangana State. He reminded that he had stated that he was an advocate of Telangana all along. He said there was need for him to make every one stand on one principle, as the PCC chief.

In reply to another question, Mr Srinivas said that all the advocates of Telangana in the party should convince the party high command about the need to concede separate statehood for Telangana. He said that he was not attaching much importance to the Sri Krishna Committee report. He also felt that the committee had given report only on the backwardness of Telangana and the reasons for it. It was not proper to conclude that the Sri Krishna Committee was favourable or unfavourable to a particular region.

Replying to a question, he said that it was his opinion that there was no need for police force in the Osmania University campus.

Mr Srinivas said that going to New Delhi along with the former Congress MP, Mr Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, was certainly an anti-party activity. He said that disciplinary action would be taken against all those who do so. He also warned the party MLAs accompanying Mr Jagan that the party was viewing the matter seriously. He said that it was not proper on the part of MLAs who got elected on Congress ticket to do anything that was detrimental to the party interests.
