Dry cold spell continues in Himachal Pradesh

Shimla: Dry cold spell continued in parts of Himachal Pradesh as strong chilly winds swept the higher hills and tribal populated areas, further intensifying the cold wave conditions.

The high altitude tribal areas and high mountain passes reeled under piercing cold wave conditions with mercury staying between -5 and -10 degree Celsius while Keylong and Kalpa in tribal Lahaul and Spiti and Kinnaur recorded minimum temperatures at -1.1 and 0.6 degrees Celsius respectively.

Mercury dipped to 2.6 degrees Celsius at key tourist destination of Manali while Bhuntar in Kullu district and Sundernagar in Mandi district registered a low of 3.8 and 4.5 degrees Celsius, four notches below normal.

Thick fog engulfed the towns along the banks of Ravi, Beas and Sutlej in the morning hours but dissipated as the day advanced.

The local MeT office has predicted dry weather in the region over next six days upto November 12, 2016 16 with marginal drop in night temperatures.
