Drunken man drowns in golf-course pond after trespassing

Gurugram: A 22-year-old drunken man and his friend drowned in a pond on a private golf course on Thursday morning after they jumped into the pond to take a bath.

The deceased man Abhinav hailed from UP and did not know swimming. He and his friend barged into a private golf course- Golf Greens behind Ambience Mall despite reading the trespassing rules, TOI reported.

According to the police, Abhinav visited his friend Rohan 20 days ago in search of a job. Rohan was working with a BPO and was staying in a rented accommodation in DLF 3, Gurugram.

The duo trespassed the Golf Greens around 4:30 am on Thursday after drinking together at Rohan’s house said the Police.

According to Rohan, Abhinav insisted on taking bath on seeing the pond and jumped into it. Rohan said thought he tried saving Abhinav on seeing him drowning he could not since even he did not know swimming.

But until Rohan got help to save his friend, his friend had already died drowning into the water.

“We have lodged a report and are waiting for his family. The autopsy will be conducted on Friday. We are investigating how the boys entered the pond despite the restriction,” said ASI Jitender Kumar, who is probing the case.

When contacted, the security supervisor of Golf Greens, who had called the police, said when he reached the spot, he only found some clothes and a liquor bottle by the pond.
