Hyderabad: The Enforcement wing has arrested 8 drug dealers who were peddling drugs in Hyderabad.
The excise department has also issued advisories and notices to various institutions in Hyderabad whose students were reportedly buying these narcotics from the peddlers.
According to the officials, about 1000 students were reported to be drug addicts out of which few from these 27 corporate colleges and 26 schools including international schools were among the clientele of these narcotics dealers led by the Kelvin Mascra.
“We are taking up awareness campaigns and sending letters to schools and colleges. We will hold an awareness meeting on July 14 with school managements,” said an official.
Kelvin Mascra, the gang leader and his associates have been selling the high-end drugs like LSD (lysergic acid diethylamide) and MDMA (methylenedioxymethamphetamine) since 2013-14 in the city.
The arrested persons also revealed about few students from nine schools and 14 corporate colleges said Mr Sabarwal during the probe.
He added “We have identified that students from few corporate and international schools located at Jubilee Hills, Banjara Hills, Begumpet, Nacharam and other localities became addicted to drugs. We have informed the parents and school managements to take immediate action for de-addictions,” he said.
Parents’ associations are not furious after the reports asking the authorities about their negligence regarding the students who fell into addiction since the managements ask their students to stay upto 12 hours in institutes for coaching of various entrance exam’s.
Hyderabad School Parents’ Association executive member Aravinda Jata calling attention to the current scenario were students are spending more time with teachers rather than at home or with parents he said, “It is the responsibility of teachers and school managements. They should have a surveillance system to identify such issues. The managements should teach them moral values. Managements should question parents why they are giving more pocket money to kids”, reported sources.
