Hyderabad, February 14: Bhanu Chander alias DJ Nash, caught in possession of cocaine, was lucky on previous occasions when he managed to smuggle the contraband to Hyderabad from Goa.
Sources disclosed to Express that Nash, son of a retired Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer, had smuggled cocaine to Hyderabad at least on 10 occasions. But he always used to be cautious and bring in small quantities so as not to cause suspicion.
But he came to the city on Friday with a reasonably large quantity of 305 gram, to supply it to some influential persons. But he ran out of luck as the West Zone police nabbed him and the others accompanying him.
“Previously he used to smuggle around 50 gram of cocaine. He used to make 10 gram packets and sell each packet for as high a price as Rs 50,000 making a neat cut of nearly Rs 30,000 in one deal. He used to keep some dope for his own consumption,” police officials said. On occasions, he used to sell one gram of cocaine at Rs 4,000 to Rs 6,000, they added.
Nash’s latest trip to the city was to specifically meet Murali and settle arrears besides delivering him cocaine. In the last few months, Nash allegedly sold cocaine worth Rs 5 lakh to Murali but received only Rs 50,000. “The meeting between Nash and Murali was about settling the pending dues of Rs 4.5 lakh besides handing over fresh supplies,” police said.
This was also confirmed by Ram Babu, an associate of Murali, who was among the arrested. He, however, denied any financial dispute in the deals. In fact, Ram Babu gave a clean chit to Murali saying that the latter neither consumes nor sells the banned drug.
Police recovered the telephone logs of both Nash and Murali and found that on several occasions they had spoken to each other on the phone.
Police are yet to gather evidence about other persons to whom cocaine was supposed to have been supplied by Nash. Police suspect Nash came to Hyderabad along with Daniel Fernandez, the Nigerian drug peddler, from Goa to supply it to the children of several prominent persons, including Tollywood personalities, in the city.
