GUWAHATI: Floods did not deter this Muslim teacher and students of the Assam from taking part in the India’s 71st Independence Day celebrations.
Mizanur Rahman an assistant teacher at Naskara LP School in Dhubri district exemplifies the patriotism and has silenced all the mouths who questions Muslim’s nationalism.
According to reports, four teachers and two students identified as Jiarul Ali Khan and Haidor Ali Khan from Class 3 standing in knee-deep water ensured the flag was hoisted and the Jana Gana Mana is sung.
“We couldn’t do much due to the flooding. We sang the national anthem and Vande Mataram. Since, small children can’t be in water for long, we dispersed the assembly early,” Mizanur has been quoted as saying by the Hindustan Times.
‘Yesterday in a meeting, we four teachers decided to organise the programme,’ said Rahman, an assistant teacher at the school.
‘We couldn’t do much due to the flooding. We sang the national anthem and Vande Mataram. Since small children can’t be in the water for long, we dispersed the assembly early,’ Rahman added.

In a Facebook post which has garnered 16000 reactions within four hours, Mizanur has written:
‘Happy independence day to all…..I m the asstt teacher at this school, school name…1185 No. Naskara LP school.. under Fakirganj Police station. Dhubri….no need to tell how we are right now, pic will tell all the stories…i did not expect this kind of support….thank you all for sharing this picture.”
Amid devastating floods in the state that have claimed 20 lives and affected over 30 lakh others, Assam celebrated the Independence Day with the same fervour as the entire nation.
The floods hit the state in the last few days inundating over 3,000 villages in 25 districts.
The latest toll is apart from the 84 persons who died in the first wave of floods between April to June.
