New delhi, January 15: Easy availability of seasonal vegetables and fruits is expected to bring down their prices in the coming days. The prices of pulses and other commodities are still soaring. Sugar prices have already touched Rs 44 per kg.
There has been a rise in the quantity of vegetable and fruits from neighbouring areas. According to the records from the Market Committee of grain market, Chandigarh, weekly arrival of potato has increased from 18,160 bags of 50 kilograms each to 26,400 this week.
Similarly, the weekly arrival of onion bags has increased from 7,814 last week to 10,711 this week. This has reflected in the prices of potato and onion which decreased from Rs 10 to Rs 8 per kg and from Rs 25 to Rs 20 per kg this week respectively.
Similarly, wholesale prices of fruits have also decreased compared to the previous month. For instance, the wholesale prices of orange have decreased from Rs 200 per box of 20-24 kg to Rs 180. Also, the maximum wholesale prices of know have decreased from Rs 18 to Rs 12 per pack of 6-10 pieces while the maximum wholesale prices of grapes have decreased from Rs 250 to Rs 200 per box in one month.
This does not reflect in the prices of pulses and other commodities which continue to soar. At present, moong dhuli dal costs a maximum of Rs 96 per kg while arhar dal is not far behind with Rs 94. Sugar prices have touched Rs 44 per kg while mustard oil ranges from Rs 64-Rs 76 per litre. The increasing prices have resulted in readjustments in the daily household budget by almost all families.
