To drop 70 crore fish seed in reservoirs: Talasani

A Cabinet Sub-Committee will hold a key meeting at Secretariat on  Friday on the flagship programs of sheep rearing and fisheries production in the State to revive rural economy.

Last year the officials put 27 crore fish seed in 3,939 lakes and reservoirs as part of the program. This year the State government has taken a decision to drop freely as many as 70 crore fish seed in reservoirs and lakes, including those in 24,200 gram panchayats to help flourish the fishermen community in rural areas.

This was stated by Animal Husbandry Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav. He will chair the sub- committee meeting on Friday. Ministers T Harish Rao, G Jagadish Reddy, Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, Jogu Ramanna, Jupally Krishna Rao and State Planning Commission deputy chairman Niranjan Reddy. It is likely that the subcommittee will take a key decision on the two schemes in the meeting. The State Government aims to revive rural economy and ensure that the community and caste based professions should get back to its old business.

The minister asked the officials to videograph the fish seed dropping program into the lakes and reservoirs. Transparency should be maintained besides being cautious to avoid irregularities and maintain size and quality. MPs, MLAs, district officials and fishermen society members and contractor of fish seed supply are expected to attend the meeting to focus on field level and other related problems in procuring the sheep and fish seed.
