Days after a blast in Bengaluru killed a woman, city police will now deploy drones with aerial cameras to man the hotpot areas which are expected to be frequented by revellers during New Year celebrations.
Drones equipped with camera will monitor from a height of 50 to 60 metres above several areas of the city including MG Road, Brigade Road and Church Street.
Talking about the recent move of the police, DCP Central (Bengaluru) Sandeep Patil tweeted,”For 1st time Drone Areal Cameras being used for new yr.Remote controlled .Go upto 50 mts.”
He further tweeted that police personnel will be monitoring from the watch towers. They will keep a check with the help of night-vision binoculars and CCTVs.
Patil said 10 watch towers, each of which will have two policemen equipped with night vision binoculars, were in place in the areas which have been sensitised with the help of bomb disposal squad and anti-sabotage checks.
Patil said from the past three days police personnel were being deployed in larger numbers with constables located at a distance of every 100 meters to check the assigned area.
He also warned of action against any misbehaviour or harassment of women during the New Year celebrations.
Patil said the 1 am deadline for winding up New Year’s celebration would be strictly followed. “We request public to cooperate with the police.Action will be taken against those who don’t follow instructions and misbehave with police in this regard.”
The security has been tightened for New Year’s day after the blast in Bengaluru claimed the life of Chennai-based women and injured three others.
Bengaluru’s Deputy Commissioner of Police Sandeep Patil said, “We are enhancing our arrangements. We are putting ten watch towers with our officials who will have a greater view. There are various CCTV cameras put up by shop owners and by us. We are putting barricades and whoever enters this area will be thoroughly checked.”
The explosion was triggered by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at 8:30 pm near the Coconut Grove restaurant on Bangalore’s Church Street.
