Driver arrested for robbing employer

Hyderabad, April 09: The driver of a businessman was on Sunday arrested for stealing Rs 15 lakh worth diamond and gold jewellery from his employer’s house a few days ago.

The theft took place on April 30 in the house of Jagadish Prasad who resides at Plot No 1, Prashashan Nagar in Jubilee Hills.

According to police, on April 27, Jagadish Prasad’s wife attended a family function and after returning home, kept her gold and diamond jewellery in the almirah of the bedroom, locked it and kept the keys in the shelf.

On April 30, Jagadish Prasad’s car driver, Santosh, a resident of MBT Nagar in Banjara Hills, went to the house for duty.

“As he could not find the car keys in the hall, he went to the first floor to ask his employer but found no one there. He, however, found the car keys in the bedroom. But his eyes fell in the almirah keys and he stole Rs 15 lakh worth gold and diamond ornaments from there,” Banjara Hills division Assistant Commissioner of Police R Ravinder Reddy said.

Police said Santosh was in huge debt and wanted to purchase a two-wheeler and hence stolen the ornaments.

For a few days, Santosh kept the ornaments in the vehicle itself. Later he shifted it to his house.

Though the police initially suspected the role of the domestic help of the house, they later grilled Santosh and found the truth.

The entire stolen ornaments were recovered from him and he was sent to judicial remand on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the police appealed to employers to appoint maids or drivers and give houses on rent only after verifying the antecedents of the persons and also inform the same to the police.
