The State Government on Thursday admitted that several drinking water schemes have remained un-utilised in the State.
Replying to a question raised by TDP MLA Errabelli Dayakar Rao during Question Hour in the State Legislative Assembly, Panchayat Raj Minister K Jana Reddy said that certain Multi Village Schemes and Single Village Schemes were temporarily not functioning due to reasons like source failure, motor failure and disruption of pipes. He said certain suggestions were made regarding 14 incomplete Multi Village Schemes in Warangal district belonging to Rural Water Supply Department.
The minister said that suggestions made were under examination and some remedial measures have already been taken. He said already six out of 14 MVS schemes were completed and water has been released. The RWS & S Department is equipped with Quality Control and Vigilance wing to monitor the works. However, specific enquiry is ordered on the points raised by Vigilance and Enforcement observations and parallely the Executive authority is ordered to complete the works in time with quality. Where sources are insufficient, alternate sources are being identified, he said.
Jana Reddy said that the State Government has been discussing the issue of evolving cost effective smaller schemes throughout the State with suitable sources for easy maintenance. Coordination is already there with irrigation department. However, to make it more effective State Technical Agency is being formed with Irrigation, Ground Water and RWS &S Department offices along with Central Government organisations, he said. (INN)
