Dress code for teachers in Gujarat

A committee of representatives from Gujarat’s school boards has suggested a dress code for primary teachers, which according to them would “make a good impression” among the students.

The body, which is comprised by chairpersons of school boards from five districts, has made recommendation to amend the primary education sector, including prescribing a uniform for teachers.

Jagdish Bhavsar, chairman of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation school board said, “Some felt that teachers should wear a uniform to make a good impression. ‘Salwar kameez’ should also be allowed in addition to the sari. Some wanted jeans and T-shirts to be banned for both men and women.”
