NEW DELHI: Moeen Ali, the first ever spinner to take hat-trick at The Oval in Test history is a proud visible role model for Muslim cricketers.
The 30-year-old bearded Ali, one of the most high profile practicing Muslims had posted a picture of himself drawing a portrait of West Indies cricket legend Sir Vivian Richards on twitter handle urging his fans to bid for the portrait for charity cricket memorabilia called Cricket United on eBay that supports Professional Cricketers’ Association.
There are many who applauded his efforts. But there were also a few fans slammed the off-spinning all-rounder saying ‘Drawing is a a ‘major sin’ and is not allowed in Islam.’

Moeen struck three times in consecutive deliveries to seal a 239-run win over England and a 2-1 lead in the Investec Series, with the final Test at Old Trafford starting on Friday.
Ali, whose hat-trick sealed England’s 239-run win in the third Test against South Africa at The Oval on Monday, is the latest of several players of Asian descent to represent England, including former captain Nasser Hussain, with cricket deeply embedded in the life of many British Asian communities.
