Dr Mohammed Yusuf elected new Wakf Board chief

Dr. Mohammed Yusuf, a renowned industrialist was elected as the chairperson of Karnataka State Board of Wakfs, here recently.

Minister for Minorities’ Welfare and Wakfs, Mr. Qamarul Islam, expressed that, hopefully Mr. Yusuf will work towards the welfare of the minorities and also protect the Wakf properties.

While addressing presspersons, the newly elected chief, Dr Yusuf said that at the time of Independence, 1.32 lakh acres of land was with the Wakf Board. Many properties were lost under various laws, including the Inam Land Abolition Act.

At present, the Wakf Board has 52,000 acres on paper, out of which a large portion is lost due to encroachment. The Board would ensure that such land will be taken back, Dr. Yusuf added.
