Dr. Louis Braille birthday celebrated in city

Justice A. Ramalingeshwara Rao of Hyderabad High Court paid rich tributes to the contribution made by Dr. Louis Braille for inventing Braille system of reading for the blind due to which many persons are able to get education. It is a wonderful contribution. Justice Ramalingeshwara Rao was addressing the 206th birthday celebrations of Dr. Louis Braille organized by Helen Keller Regional Association for the Blind and Helen Keller Institute of Research and Rehabilitation for the handicapped at Disabled Welfare Bhavan at Nalgonda Cross roads yesterday. He applauded the efforts of the handicapped and blind persons that they have marvelous potentials to work more. Their issues are not addressed in society. He expressed surprise that there are 69 lakh handicapped persons in the State. He assured that he is always ready to help the handicapped persons. Reacting on the report of the association for not implementing the 3% reservation in Govt. jobs for the handicapped persons, he said that he will make an attempt to dispose off 8 writ petitions pending in the High Court in consultation with the Chief Justice.

Speaking on this occasion Mr. P. Omer Khan, Chairman of Helen Keller Institution of Research and Rehabilitation for the Handicapped, told that the institute for the physically handicapped owes its existence to HEH the Nizam of Hyderabad who established it in 1939 for educating blind, deaf and dumb children. He paid a rich tribute to the contribution made by Dr. Louis Braille. Present on this occasion were former Chairman of A.P.V.C.C. Mr. Sai Baba and others.
