Loksatta founder president Dr Jayaprakash Narayan has opined that there was a need to have a discussion across the nation on rationalization of reservations keeping the agitation on OBC reservations for Patels in Gujarat State.
In a press note here today, JP said that there was a need to create response on Patels agitation and not friction. He said that the reservations were helping further the persons who pursued higher education and the benefits were confined to few people. He said that countless people in SCs and OBCs were denied of opportunities and the poor in upper castes were in jealous towards the people availing reservations. There was a feeling in everyone that they were deceived except rich people who were enjoying the reservations, he asserted. “There is need to change this crisis”, he opined.
There is an immediate change needed to clear the prevailing crisis and the changes are…IAS, IPS and other officials, MLAs, MPs, doctors and other rich people to be exempted from reservations. There was a need to provide reservations to the poor from upper castes. There was a need to provide facilities to the good students from poor back ground irrespective of their social status. The system should be in a position to provide quality education to everyone.
By implementing the above said setups the reservation system to be abolished within 25 years and everyone will avail the facilities without any discrimination. But the present political leaders were continuing the reservation system doing vote politics against the wishes of Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar. There is a need for sincere discussion on the reservation system to provide quality education to everyone. The gap increasing between castes due to zero sum reservations, JP opined and added that it was a perfect time for the reforms in reservation system. (NSS)
