India’s tallest statue of Baba Saheb Dr. B. R. Ambedkar will come up at NTR Ghat.
Speaking to media persons at the State Secretariat on Monday, Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari and Energy Minister Jagadish Reddy informed that the 125-feet statue of Dr. Ambedkar would be installed at NTR Ghat. He said of nearly 30-35 acres of land, the NTR Memorial was located on nearly 4 acres. Therefore, Dr. Ambedkar’s statue would be constructed on the vacant land in the same premises. Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao will lay the foundation stone for Dr. Ambedkar’s statue on April 14.
Further, Kadiyam said that the present building of Ambedkar Bhavan at Lower Tank Bund would be replaced with a modern structure. Similarly, a Centre for Dalit Studies would be established at Borabanda.
Meanwhile, the Telangana Government on Monday a 22-member Ambedkar Vigraha Aviskarana Committee under the chairmanship of Deputy CM Kadiyam Srihari. The Committee would suggest year long programmes across Telangana State in connection with 125th Jayanthi Utsavam of Dr. Ambekar besides supervising the construction of statue. The other members of the committee include Deputy CM Mohammed Mahmood Ali, Home Minister Nayani Narasimha Reddy, Energy Minister G. Jagadish Reddy, Tribal Welfare Minister Azmeera Chandulal, Chief Whip Koppula Eshwar, MLAs Rasmai Balakishan and Guvvala Balraj, MPs Balka Suman, Pasunuri Dayakar and Boora Narsaiah Goud, GHMC Mayor Bonthu Rammohan and TSPSC Chairman Ghanta Chakrapani.
