Dozen devotees injured after being attacked

Sangrur (Punjab), April 18: A dozen devotees, including women and children, were injured after being attacked by members of a community who has a dispute with authorities of the Sati Shivala Temple at Sunam here, which the devotees visited today.

According to sources, a petition is pending in a civil court regarding possession of the temple, which is claimed by the temple’s managing committee as well the Kamboj community.

The temple management have secured a status quo from the court on the possession, the sources said.

Irked over the issue, members of Kamboj community, armed with sharp-edged weapons and rods, attacked the devotees this evening.

The injured persons were rushed to Sunam civil hospital, police said.

Both communities are at loggerheads over the temple’s possession.
