Dowry harassment: Two women commit suicide in separate incidents

Hyderabad: Two separate incidents of dowry harassment took place resulting in the suicide of two women.

Samreen Begum (22), resident of Chatrinaka got vexed up with the harassment of husband and her in-laws for bringing more dowry. Irritated with maltreatment, she had made an attempt to commit suicide by hanging herself on 18th October. She died on 23rd October while undergoing treatment.

According to the report of the police, Samreen Begum was the wife of Mohammed Sohail, a resident of Uppuguda.

In another incident, Lavanya (19) who had got married to Mahesh Kumar two months back got vexed up with the demand of her in-laws to fulfill the promise of paying Rs. 2 lakh as dowry. The woman belonged to Vikharabad. At the time of marriage, various articles of domestic use were given with a promise to pay Rs. 2 lakh later which was not fulfilled. The woman was facing harassment due to this. Vexed with this, she took this extreme step. Police registered cases and started investigation.
