Alleged harassment by husband and in-laws for additional dowry drove a 29-year-old woman to suicide.
The incident took place in Boduppal in Medipally police limits. The victim, Gajula Pallavi, committed suicide by consuming some unknown poison at her residence on Wednesday night.
Preliminary investigation by the police revealed that Pallavi was married to one GMNV Prasad in October 2011. The couple also had a two-year-old son Anish. At the time of marriage Rs 5 lakh cash, 20 tolas of gold and other household articles were given as dowry. Last year, Prasad took another Rs 5 lakh from Pallavi’s parents to purchase a new house. However, Prasad and his parents were allegedly harassing Pallavi asking her to bring more dowry. Unable to bear the harassment, she resorted to the extreme step, police said.
Police began investigations after registering a case under Section 304 (B) has been registered against Prasad and his parents. (INN)
