Dowry harassment case against Amani

Nellore, July 29 Police are said to be looking for actress Amani who has been named in a dowry harassment case filed by her sister-in-law. Her brother Srinivas was reportedly arrested by the Nellore police along with his mother and second wife on Wednesday evening.

Amani’s sister-in-law, Leelavathi left her marital home and returned to her parents’ yesterday and filed a dowry harassment case against Srinivas, her husband of 13 years, alleging relentless harassment.

She named Amani, Srinivas’ parents and his second Devikala as fellow accused Leelavathi, daughter of Chengaiah Achari, a wealthy goldsmith and president of the Viswa Brahmana Seva Sangham, married Srinivas in 1997.

At the time of the marriage, Rs 10 lakh in cash, 80 tolas of gold ornaments and 9 kg of silver articles were given as dowry. After a few months of her marriage, Leelavathi came to know that her husband was an alcoholic.

In an interview with a news channel, she said her husband was a drug addict and a sadist. She lost her first child as she got aborted after allegedly being severely beaten up by her husband.

Her neighbours admitted her to hospital when her family members went to Bangalore after confining her in a room.
