Dowry: Grooms, baratis held hostage by villagers demand Rs.10 lakh fine

Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh: In an unexpected and surprising incident, the grooms and the entire baraat were held hostage for demanding a huge dowry by a panchayat in Singhawali village of Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh.

According to a report published in News18, a fine of Rs 10 lakh has also imposed on the groom’s family.

The grooms Dilshad and Imran, hail from Wajidpur village of Baraut and their family was demanding three bikes and Rs 50,000 in cash as a dowry.

The whole baraat was held hostage till the last report came in as the grooms’ family was arranging the sum of rupees imposed as penalty.
