Double standard: United Airlines apologizes to Tahera Ahmad

United Airlines has apologized to Tahera Ahmad, the Northwestern chaplain after a flight attendant’s refusal to give an unopened can of soda.

“While United did not operate the flight, Ms. Ahmad was our customer and we apologize to her for what occurred on the flight,” read a statement the airlines posted on their website at 1:45 p.m. on Wednesday. “United does not tolerate behavior that is discriminatory – or that appears to be discriminatory – against our customers or employees.”

“After investigating this matter, United has ensured that the flight attendant, a Shuttle America employee, will no longer serve United customers.”

Story of being denied an unopened can of soda mid-flight gained captured national attention after she wrote about it Friday on Facebook through “tears of humiliation from discrimination” which led to a social media firestorm.
