Trivananthapuram, March 01: A double-decker bus of the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation will start plying in the capital from Tuesday after a gap of six years. Along with this, a 16-metre vestibule bus will also start service in the city.
The double-decker and the vestibule bus purchased by the KSRTC for over Rs.31 lakh each will be flagged off by Transport Minister Jose Thettayil at East Fort. Public Works Minister M. Vijayakumar and Ports and Youth Welfare Minister V. Surendran Pillai will attend the function.
The double-decker can accommodate 42 commuters on the upper deck and another 31 on the lower deck. Starting from the city unit, the bus will move along Sanghumughom and Sasthamangalam linking various places in the city.
The vestibule bus on the line of the trailer buses the corporation had earlier in the capital will be able to seat a total of 83 passengers. It is for the first time that the KSRTC is introducing such buses in the State for the commuters.
Since the driver will be able to control the rear wheel also, there is no need for apprehension among the commuters on the safety aspect of the vestibule bus.
The bus will commence service from the Peroorkada depot of the KSRTC and will move along Kesavadasapuram, Medical College, Kumarapuram and Kannammoola to East Fort as a circular.
