Dottin seals T20I series for Windies in Super Over

Karachi: All-rounder Deandra Dottin gave West Indies a 2-0 lead in the three-match T20I series in Karachi, but her side had to make extra efforts, with Pakistan pushing the game into a thrilling Super Over on Friday.

Dottin hammered two sixes and a boundary off Sana Mir, setting 19 for the hosts to level the series. However, in reply, Pakistan could only manage one run as Aliya Riaz and Nida Dar were seen off by West Indies’ most economical bowler Shakera Selman.

Earlier, Pakistan had set a competitive target of 133, with Javeria Khan and Bismah Maroof thrusting the first innings after the early loss of Umaima Sohail for a duck.

The duo stitched a fine 59 for the second wicket before Bismah’s departure for a 34-ball 31. In the very next over, Javeria was dismissed for 26 off 28 deliveries.

Nida Dar and Iram Javed then revived Pakistan as they put on a 27-run stand before Iram was made to return for 18. Sharing the crease with Nida (25*), Aliya Riaz (23*) came out and the pair ticked the scoreboard to post 133.

Chasing the target, West Indies top-order batswomen Kycia Knight and Dottin quickly smashed 30 for the opening wicket before Dottin’s dismissal for 22. Knight along with Shemaine Campbelle build on a strong 54-run stand, but with the run-out of Knight on 22, the Caribbean middle-order wobbled that nearly cost them the match.

Chedean Nation was trapped for 13, while Natasha McLean returned after contributing one run.

Campbelle’s fighting innings came to an end as she was dismissed for 41. However, Merissa Aguilleira’s seven-ball six and Chinelle Henry’s unbeaten 11 off five deliveries helped West Indies tie the scores.
Already secured the series, West Indies will meet Pakistan for the third T20I on February 3.
