Dornier crash: Lt Kiran Shekhawat cremated with full military honours

The mortal remains of Lieutenant Kiran Shekhawat, the woman officer who died in the line of duty, was consigned to flames with full military honours in Kurthala village of Haryana’s Mewat district on Sunday.

Besides the family members, several politicians from the state also paid their homage to the departed soul.

Accompanied by the Navy officials, the body of the young officer was brought in the village wrapped around in a tricolour.

Lieutenant Shekhawat, who lost her life when the Indian Navy’s Dornier aircraft crashed south-west off the Goa coast earlier this week, was also accorded a guard of honour.

She was one of the two naval aviators who went missing after their India-made Dornier surveillance plane crashed.

The body of Lt Shekhawat was recovered from the fuselage earlier on Thursday.

The body of the second missing Navy officer Lt Abhinay Nagori was recovered the next day.

The aircraft was on a routine sortie with a three member crew on-board when the controlling tower lost contact with it at 10.08 pm on Tuesday. Preliminary findings reportedly indicate that the plane had developed some technical snag causing it to crash in the sea. (ANI)
