Sanitation workers slammed Modi for not bettering their lives. It must be recalled that on 24th February this year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had washed the feet of five sanitation workers at Prayagraj.
When the sanitation workers were contacted ahead of Lok Sabha elections, they said they want permanent jobs. They rue that they are working on contract and don’t get salaries for 3 to 4 months.
When asked they informed that they didn’t get cylinder under Ujwala scheme and were cooking on firewood.
They have to travel to Noida, Haridwar Allahabad and have to keep running around for work. One of them says he wants a permanent job and a house so that he could stay in his village and doesn’t need to run around.
One of the sanitation workers says, ‘don’t wash our feet, care for our stomach care, care for our future.’
An elderly person says ‘I spent nearly 40 years running around for government schemes but to no avail.
A woman worker says, ‘we have to keep going between fairs sometimes in Haridwar, Allahabad or Ujjain. How can we educate our children?’
One of the women says we got Rs 300 a day but we have to clean so much human faeces and filth.
