Don’t judge me only on demonetisation and GST, says Modi in interview

In an interview with Zee News, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said his government should not be evaluated just on the basis of demonetisation and on the implementation of Goods and Service Tax.

There were other successful steps taken such as creating jobs, PM said.

While answering the question on job creation, PM Modi spoke about a recent study that shows seven million jobs had been created in the formal sector alone in the current financial year.

“This data of seven million jobs is not like building castles in the air. It has been calculated by an independent agency on the basis of EPFO (Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation) figures,” Modi said.

On Criticism due to failed policies:

Countering the allegations of economic slowdown, he said that the economy is moving in right direction, and the youngsters should be helped by the government in developing their skills to meet global demand.

“We carried out economic reform, built toilets, brought electricity to 18,000 villages. In the past one year, 70 lakh EPF accounts have been created. Ten crore people have signed up for the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Loan Yojana that helps budding entrepreneurs set up businesses,” he said in the interview with Sudhir Chaudhary.

When asked about kind of Budget, Modi said the mantra of his government was development. “Whether this is the last Budget or the first Budget, whether there are elections or not, the mantra of Modi is only development, development and development. The mantra of the Bharatiya Janata Party is only development, Sabka sath, sabka vikas.”
