Donations to CMRF reach Rs 165-cr mark

Hyderabad, November 06: Every rupee donated will wipe out the tears of the flood-affected people and every single rupee received by the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund for the purpose will be spent most judiciously and the government will see to it that it reaches only the needy, Chief Minister K Rosaiah has said.

He gave this assurance today in a message to philanthropists seeking their generous contribution to the CMRF. His message came on the occasion of the donations totalling Rs 165 crore sofar.

“I have no words to express my gratitude from the bottom of my heart to all the kind-hearted philanthropists who have contributed to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund toward the flood relief,’’ chief minister said.

It was a very positive and magnanimous response from the people, Rosaiah said, adding that they just came forward for the noble cause.

Rosaiah said that the Central team which visited the flood-hit areas applauded the gigantic relief operations undertaken by the State Government’s machinery. “A member of the Central Water Commission even said that it was possibly one of the best flood-management efforts by any government in the recent past.’’ UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, who rushed to the State on October 5 and expressed her support, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and several other leaders also appreciated the timely response of the State machinery and round-theclock monitoring and relief operations, Rosaiah said. The chief minister complimented the State disaster management department, district administrations and irrigation officials for taking timely action in providing rescue and relief to the affected people.

“Floods have affected more than 20 lakh people in five districts and rendered more than 5.89 lakh homeless. More than 3.66 lakh people have taken shelter in 387 relief camps which have been provided with sanitation facilities. Now, permanent shelters need to be provided.’’ While reiterating his gratitude to those who have made generous contributions to the cause, Rosaiah appealed to the others to liberally donate to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund for the unfinished task ahead.
