Donald Trump has spent as much on travel in a month as Barack Obama did in a year

WASHINGTON: The new president Donald Trump, who spent many years criticizing former President Barack Obama for wasting taxpayer money, spends as much as in one month than Obama spent in eight years as president.

Trump, in his first formal interview to CBS’ 60 Minutes after being elected as the new President, told that he would take only $1 of the $400,000 annual U.S. presidential salary and “he don’t think we’ll be very big on vacations has so far spent $10 million to $11.3 million.

According to accountability office projections used by The Washington Post, the president’s three trips to his Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach, Fla., at a total estimated cost of $10 million — or nearly as much as Obama spent in a year.

Don’t forget that New York City is paying half-mill or $500,000 a day to guard Trump Tower where first lady Melania and son Barron live and it is estimated that it will cost taxpayers $183 million a year. The recent trip of Eric Trump to Uruguay cost the Secret Service and US Embassy roughly $100,000.

Video from a CBSN report:

The Washington Post writes that “the unusually elaborate lifestyle of America’s first family is straining the Secret Service and security officials, stirring financial and logistical concerns in several local communities, and costing far beyond what has been typical for previous presidents.”

The new President who has over two dozen times mocked Obama for golfing  has headed to the golf course at least 6 times since he took office.

Obama spent about $97 million — or about $12 million a year over his 8 years in office on travel, but Trump, during his first month in office has spent at least $10 million on trips and will cost hundreds of millions of dollars more.
