Domestic help escape with valuables in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad, May 21: Two domestic help, escaped with cash and goods worth over Rs14 lakh, which they burgled from the businessman’s house in a posh area of the city.

Police officials said that $1,500, four gold chains, some silver, 18 dinner set pieces, two cameras, two mobile phones and four Mont Blanc pens, amounting to Rs14.5 lakh, was stolen.

Sources said that the two servants had been working in the house of one Bipin Mangal for over a year. Mangal and his family are in the US where his son is based. The theft came to light on Wednesday morning when Mangal’s brother Sanjay was called by the gardener of the house, situated near Law Garden, to inspect it.

Sources said that the gardener found the main gate of the house unlocked, and the locker in the bedroom broken into. Suspecting that the household help had committed a burglary, he called Sanjay who found out that the house had been robbed of cash and valuables, and filed a complaint at the Navrangpura police station.

Investigating officer, PSI UB Jadeja said, “The two help, watchman Deepak Bahadur and servant Raja Bahadur, had the keys to the house, handed over to them by the owner. They used the keys to get in and then broke the locker inside the bedroom. We are investigating the matter.”

Jadeja said that Bipin Mangal and his family are likely to return from their trip by May 25.

According to the complaint filed by Sanjay Mangal, the burglary was committed some time between May 16 and 19. Sources said that both the Mangal brothers are in the chemical business.
