Domestic air traffic dips again

New Delhi, October 15: After witnessing a marginal increase in August, domestic air traffic has once again dipped by about 70,000 in September, according to official figures released today.

The total domestic passengers carried by all scheduled airlines last month was 35.56 lakh compared with 36.3 lakh in August.

However, domestic airlines carried about 319.79 lakh passengers between January to September this year as compared to 316.71 lakh in the corresponding period of 2008, thus registering a marginal increase of about one per cent for the first time in last one and half years, official statistics showed.

Jet Airways and its subsidiary JetLite once again led the show in September carrying 8.26 lakh together, compared with Kingfisher and its no-frill carrier Kingfisher Red at 8.16 lakh.

They were followed by Air India (Domestic) with 6.14 lakh and low-cost major IndiGo with 5.01 lakh, SpiceJet with 4.61 lakh, GoAir 2.
