Hyderabad, May 20: The documentary film-making workshop covers all stages of producing either a documentary film from the idea through development. Students produce their own projects on either film or videotape.
“Nowadays, lives are being strongly influenced by media in all forms and with the recent spread of using cameras extensively by all age groups, there is a great potential to use this rapidly growing trend to produce documentaries which will impact the society.”
“Light House productions has conceptualised this unique training programme to channel the creativity of children by encouraging pupils to think, research and produce documentaries to make an impact on their peers, family, schools and communities,” says Shikha Gandhi, a documentary filmmaker and director, television producer, media consultant and writer who is one of the hosts of the workshop.
“This is an intensive workshop to create social awareness and meaningful cinema. We have eminent, professional speakers coming to teach and train the students covering every aspect in film making during this four day course. We are also lucky to have 20 young socially aware students,” says Jaiwantika DD, a documentary filmmaker, who is also teaching at this four-day workshop.
The workshop has theory as well as practical classes.
The theory includes preproduction (selecting a topic for the documentary, researching, writing concept notes, budgeting, writing the script, planning the shoot); production (direction, basics of camera, lighting, using tripods, depth of field, shots and angles, language of films) and post production (reviewing the footage, editing the script and graphics, background music).
During the practicals the participants were divided into two groups to research and direct their own short documentaries and after completion these films will be screened at different venues.
The Rock Works Foundation (TRWF) in association with Light House Productions is organising a Documentary Film Making Workshop for children above 12 years till May 21 at Lamakaan.
