Kolkata: A documentary on Kota Coaching Factory has won the first prize for India at the Asian Pitch film festival 2016 in Taipei, along with the films from Bhutan and South Korea. Directed by Hemant Gaba, the film follows three IIT aspirants studying at different coaching centres in Kota, Rajasthan.
Hemant said “India has a significant appetite for creative documentaries, but Indian TV channels are reluctant to invest in cultivating new habits for the audiences.” As a part of its winnings, the movie will get funding and a broadcast opportunity on foreign networks likes NHK (Japan), KBS (Korea), MediaCorp (Singapore) and PTS (Taiwan). The Asian Pitch took place from August 4-6 and featured selected projects from 136 proposals received in 2016.
