Doctors threaten to halt emergency services in Birgunj

Birgunj : The doctors on Sunday warned of halting emergency services in most of the hospitals in in Birgunj, Nepal, if their arrested colleagues were not released at the earliest.

Responding to the call of Nepal Medical Association (NMA) Birgunj, the doctors carried out a rally in Birgunj this morning. NMA vice-president Dr Pramod Sarraf submitted a memorandum to Chief District Officer (CDO) Keshav Raj Ghimire demanding early release of the arrested doctors.

The doctors said that they would halt emergency services in one dozen private hospitals and also in the Narayani Sub-Regional Hospital if the arrested doctors were not released within 24 hours, reports the Himalayan Times.

A police team deployed from the Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police earlier on Friday arrested eight practicing doctors from different health facilities of Birgunj on suspicion of using fake academic credentials to obtain professional licences.

On Saturday as well, the doctors did not provide any service except the emergency ones in more than one dozen private hospitals demanding early release of the detained doctors.

They also closed private clinics and drug stores. (ANI)
