Hyderabad: The physical attack on Global hospitals in the city by family members of a woman patient, who died at the hospital while undergoing treatment, has shocked the entire doctors community of Hyderabad. Doctors from various hospitals in the city staged a dharna in front of the hospital and raised slogans demanding stern action against the accused.
Holding placards, the agitating doctors said they lost confidence on the Police department with such violent incidents in the hospitals. They also said they could not offer their services to other patients if they are attacked like this. They also made it clear that they cannot treat the patients if such incidents took place again.
The doctors sought intervention of the State government to prevent such incidents in future. The dharna by the doctors created a huge traffic jam before the hospital. The local police came to the spot and took away the agitating doctors from the area and cleared the traffic. On Monday night, the deceased patient’s family members went on a rampage attacking healthcare workers and damaging property. The dare-devil incident has triggered widespread resentment among the community of the health care professionals.
The Global Hospital doctors have said a 45-year-old Shameen Begum was diagnosed with swine flu and also had severe lung infection, which made it a challenge for doctors to revive her. After the patient was declared dead on Monday night, her sons went berserk ransacking furniture and attacked the hospital employees in the presence of police personnel.
