Doctors removed 500g metal objects from girl`s stomach

Doctors have removed metal objects, including nails, safety pins and parts of a magnet, weighing 500 grams from the stomach of a teenage Pakistani girl during a three-hour surgery here.

Fifteen-year-old Fatima Hifza was taken by her parents to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in the city with severe abdominal pain on Friday morning.

The surgery was performed yesterday, hospital officials said.

Hina Khan, a doctor at the hospital, told journalists: “We removed three nails, a bunch of safety pins, some small pieces of a magnet and other metal objects from her stomach.”

The surgery was performed after ultrasound tests detected some metal objects in the girl`s stomach.

“The operation was successful and the patient has been shifted to the surgical ward for further care,” Khan said.

Khan said the girl, who had a psychiatric condition, had swallowed the metal objects and had no idea about the harmful effects of her action.
