Doctors not responsible for infants’ deaths: Minister

Medical Education Minister Kondru Murali Mohan on Sunday reiterated that the doctors were not responsible for the death of infants in government hospitals.

Talking to media persons after inspecting the Mahatma Gandhi Medical Hospital in Warangal, Kondru Murali Mohan said that the State Government was taking all measures to improve infrastructure facilities in government hospitals on par with corporate hospitals. Admitting the shortage of infrastructure facilities in the MGM Hospital, the Minister, however, said that the infant deaths did not occur due to negligence of doctors. He said that the children’s deaths occurred as the parents brought them to the hospital in the last minute.

Stating that the government was taking all steps to install 20 ventilators in the hospital, the minister also promised that the government would provide all the facilities needed for treating children’s ailments in 20 days period. He said the government would also take steps to regularise 250 contract workers and 338 staff nurses based on their qualification and eligibility.
