Health and Family Welfare Minister DL Ravindra Reddy on Wednesday informed the House that the State Government did not receive any application for the posts of Specialists and Lady Gynecologists which were notified recently.
Replying to a question raised by TDP MLA K Harishwar Reddy during Question Hour, the minister said that the government has issued notification for the recruitment of 1,000 Specialists and 151 lady gynecologists. However, he said that the government did not receive any applications for the posts. Further, he said that the District Collectors have been authorised to appoint 450 Civil Surgeons in their jurisdictions. He expressed regret that the doctors were not willing to join the public hospitals.
Ravindra Reddy also said that the newly sanctioned 400 PG lien vacancies of in-service doctors were being filled up during 2012 in all the PHCs on contract basis.
With regard to upgradation of 30-bedded Government Hospital in Pargi as 100-bedded hospital, the minister said although one representation was pending on this issue for consideration, the State Government has no plans to upgrade the hospital.
Earlier, MIM MLA Virasat Rasool Khan complained of shortage of doctors, medicines and para-medical staff in Sarojinin Devi Eye Hospital, Mehdi Nawaz Jung Cancel Hospital, Niloufer Hospital and Nampally General Hospital. He asked the government to appoint doctors on contract basis.
MLAs Vijaya Prasad, Dr Narasimha Reddy and K Das also complained of lack of doctors and staff in the public hospitals.
Replying to a separate question raised by MLA R Kantha Rao, Ravindra Reddy admitted that there was no mortuary in Manuguru Town of Pinapaka constituency and people of Pinapaka, Aswapuram and Manuguru mandals were taking dead bodies to places about 70 to 80 km away due to non-availability of mortuary. He said that some proposals of setting up a mortuary at Manugur town were under consideration. He said another proposal for setting up of a community health centre has been pending since 2009, but it was under active consideration. (INN)
