Doctors of Indian origin allowed to practice in India

Govt. of India has decided to permit doctors of Indian origin working abroad to allow them medical practice in the super specialty hospitals of India. If such doctors join as faculty members in medical colleges, they will also be permitted to do private practice.

The objective of the Govt. is to attract highly qualified specialist medical professionals to come to India and settle down here.

Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad, Health Minister told that Medical Council of India has been asked to make such legal provisions in accordance with the decision of the Govt. of India. This year Govt. of India is contemplating to establish four super specialty hospitals like All India Institute of Medical Sciences for which it is not getting highly qualified super specialist doctors.

Hence certain provisions of the rules and regulations have been relaxed to encourage Indian doctors to come to India to serve their own countrymen.
