The doctors who were protesting protesting against the alleged high-handedness of police and administration against the junior doctors of GSVM medical college of Kanpur called off their strike Thursday morning.
Junior doctors and medical practitioners across the state went on a strike following police action and arrest of two dozen junior doctors of GSV Medical College, Kanpur as a result of a scuffle with the SP MLA Feb 28.
The striking doctors were demanding that cases be lodged against Samajwadi Party MLA Irfan Solanki for allegedly beating up junior doctors in Kanpur. The doctors had also seeked withdrawal of cases lodged against 24 of their colleagues who were arrested over the incident.
The UP government on Wednesday invoked the Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA) in the wake of the strike by doctors which entered its sixth day yesterday, paralysing health services in the state.
The High Court yesterday ordered the transfer of Yadav after taking suo motu cognisance in the matter.
The bench of Justice Imtiyaz Murtaza and D.K. Upadhyaya ordered the formation of a judicial inquiry commission to look into the entire set of events at the Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Medical College in Kanpur Feb 28.
The court also asked the striking doctors to immediately return to work.
