Thousands of doctors called off their strike in Maharashtra on Monday after Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan promised to accept their key demands. Some members of Maharashtra Association of Gazetted Medical Officers (MAGMO) were on hunger strike since July 1, leading to suspension of healthcare services in the state. “Today, we have called off the strike after the chief minister expressed his opinion to us,” said Doctor Rajesh Gaikwad, chief of MAGMO. The Maharashtra Chief Minister said the government has accepted most of the demands proposed by MAGMO, and a proposal would be brought in the cabinet to resolve the issues on which there was a deadlock. “We have accepted some of their demands. We will continue to discuss some of the other issues with them. We will take decision on one-two demands in the next cabinet meeting,” said Chavan. The doctors were demanding fixed duty hours, fixed time of increment and higher pay. (ANI)
