Bejing, March 23: A Former doctor went on a stabbing spree with a machete at a primary school in eastern China, killing eight children, state media agency Xinhua reports.
The middle-aged man was detained by police in connection to the attack which occurred this morning at The Experimental School in Nanping City in east China’s Fujian Province.
Three children died at the scene, and five others succumbed to their injuries in hospital.
Five further students were injured and are now said to be in a stable condition, the agency said, without giving their ages or other details.
The school was shut down following the attack.
Police said the man was a former community clinic doctor, who had been dismissed from his post and allegedly had mental problems.
