Doctor held for duping MBBS aspirants

Hyderabad, February 14: An MBBS qualified doctor, who duped several students by promising them seats in medical colleges, was arrested by the Cyberabad police on Sunday.

The 26-year-old accused, Gaddam Shyam Sunder, a native of Adilabad, completed his MBBS in 2009 and worked in private nursing homes for a brief period. He later set up his own organisation named Gaddam Rajgadh Education Trust at Adilabad with a branch at Kothapet in the city. He even planned to obtain government land in the name of the Trust.

“Shyam Sunder lured medical aspirants promising them seats in various medical colleges in the city under the management quota. He collected several lakhs of rupees from each student,” Kukatpally police said.

Police said Shyam collected more than Rs 65 lakh from nearly 30 students. He reportedly gave some of the money to several persons on heavy interest. Police said that the accused had made it an aim to collect Rs 5 crore in the same manner.

Promising to provide a seat in the MNR college at Kukatpally, Shyam Sunder collected more than Rs 3 lakh from a woman from Adilabad recently. But when she came to the college to enquire about the seat, she found that she was cheated.

Based on a complaint by the college management, Kukatpally police arrested Shyam from Kothapet today.

Police registered a case under section 120-B (criminal conspiracy) and 420 (cheating) against him and remanded him to judicial custody.
